Frequently Asked Questions

Shipping & Returns

What's your warranty policy?

We offer a lifetime guarantee against all manufacturing defects. If your gear has a defect, we’ll send you a replacement or organise a repair – anywhere in the world.

This second paragraph is where some companies might list their endless conditions, exclusions, and sub-clauses to their reckless first sentence. But we’re big believers in common sense – a defect is a defect – and we won’t use legal jargon as a rock to hide under when you come knocking. Problems with our gear are incredibly rare, but we know how good it feels to have a solid warranty backing you up when you’re on the road. If any of our gear falls short of our high quality-control standards, we’ll make it right.

Ultimately, any gear that takes a severe beating over a long period of time will eventually show signs of wear and tear. This isn’t considered a defect – but drop us a line if you’re in doubt, and we’ll be straight with you either way.

If you're in the U.S. and want to request a warranty refund or replacement, you can do it here. If you live outside the U.S. and have a warranty issue, it's best to contact us directly.

If I order today, when will I receive my Minaal?

Check out our full shipping guide.

If you have a trip in the near future, check in with our support team before you order, to make sure you're not left scrambling at the last minute!

Do I have to pay Customs fees and/or import taxes?

We work with a third-party fulfillment company to manage all our international shipping, and they'll do everything they can within the law to minimize any Customs fees and import taxes you may be charged.

We'll work hard to avoid your package experiencing any Customs issues, but in the end we don't pretend to have intimate or extensive Customs knowledge of the entire world, and we can't guarantee you won't experience delays or be charged duties or other fees. After we've shipped your bag, all taxes and fees are your responsibility.

How do I update my shipping address?

We're big fans of the wanderer's lifestyle, and just like you, we often don't know where we'll be weeks or months ahead of time. So we use every possible moment before shipping takes place to make updates – to make sure you get your gear on time, and in the right place.

If you need to update an address of a recent order, drop us a line here ASAP with your updated information and we'll see how we can help (side note: often, you'll have more power than us to change an order, by working directly with the delivery company. But we're always happy to help co-ordinate!)

How does shipping work?

We ship nearly everywhere in the world, and we're happy to answer any questions you have about your order.

How did we connect on Facebook Messenger?

Facebook Messenger for notifications

It's easy to get notifications right where you hang out, on Facebook. Just tick the 'send to  Facebook Messenger' box at checkout to get automatic order tracking and shipping updates sent directly to Messenger:

We'll only ever send notifications that are relevant to your order, never spam (eww... gross!). But you can also hit us up there with questions, to swap .gifs or to talk gear and travel anytime.

Here's what notifications look like:

I checked the box, but I don't want you messaging me on Facebook anymore!

Oops! No worries. You can switch off Messenger notifications on the order status page linked in your confirmation email or we'll do it for you. Just ask us on Messenger or shoot a quick email to feedback[at]minaal[dot]com.

Our Gear

Will my laptop fit inside the bag’s device compartment?

The device compartments of the Minaal 2.0 and Daily each contain a neoprene DeviceNest sleeve, which can fit a 15” Macbook Pro or smaller. Larger laptops are likely to fit inside the broader device compartment (especially in the 2.0), but they may need their own sleeve for extra protection. If you have any doubts, feel free to drop us a line here!

What's the difference between the 1.0 and 2.0 bags?

Our most popular question!

In short - the Carry-on 2.0 helps you move even faster than the 1.0 version.

Specifically, new features on the 2.0 include:

  • our patent-pending neoprene laptop and device holder, allowing access from the side and the top
  • our new 600D and 1000D Air-textured yarn nylon fabric
  • re-engineered carry handles for extra comfort
  • a new hook compression system with 'easy-access' and 'secure' modes
  • super cool magnetized stabilizer straps
  • 3D pockets in the main compartment for extra storage
  • dedicated document sleeve, passport pocket, and zippered 'trinkets' pocket in the laptop compartment
  • the ability to attach our optional Modular Hip Pads and Messenger Sling accessories (all other accessories work with both the 1.0 and 2.0 bags)

...plus a bunch more under-the-hood tweaks and improvements!

If you want to see the 2.0 bag in action, as well as a detailed breakdown of the new components, take a stroll over to the product page.

How much I can I fit in your bags?

Capacity is a tricky thing to measure, because it depends on so much more than volume (we may, or may not, or may have ranted about capacity of travel backpacks once here).

What we can do is tell you the exact dimensions of our gear, and show you a few videos of what other people have managed to fit inside their bags.

The dimensions of the Minaal 2.0 are 55 x 35 x 20cm (21.7 x 13.8 x 7.9in).

The dimensions of the Daily are 43 x 32 x 16cm (16.9 x 12.6 x 6.3in).

But to give you a better idea of what you’ll be able to fit, you can check out our official how-to videos for our bags and accessories, or have a look at these 2.0 and Daily Youtube playlists (which include packing videos).

How can I get my bag serviced?

We build Minaal gear for the long-haul, but because it's made by humans for humans, sometimes we see defects in production.

If you think your gear might be defective, drop us a line and send along a pic here with the details of what's happened, and we'll help you diagnose the issue.

Who is Minaal gear designed for?

Minaal gear is designed for the business traveller—male or female—who needs to stay professional while navigating everything from sweaty tropical capitals to frosty Alaskan outposts. It's designed for the digital nomad, who roams by rickshaw every day from apartment to cafe to bus stop to temple. For the office worker, who needs to fit gym shoes and fragile devices in the same bag and not look out of place in the elevator. For the European adventurer, who needs something equally suited to walking tours through Prague, train rides through the Alps, and rugged hikes through the Slovenian woodlands.

If you don’t love dragging wheeled suitcases up endless flights of stairs; if you’re ready to shed your unwieldy 80L hiking pack and embrace a minimalist style of travel; if you want to skip queues at airports and move swiftly through security, and be the envy of hassled-looking travellers everywhere—then you’re a lot like us, and exactly who we had in mind when we designed our products!

Why aren’t accessories included with the bag?

Hip belts, shirt protectors and the like are absolute essentials for some travellers, but they’re not for everyone. We’re all about giving you the choice. Personally, we think it’s better to make 25 hip belts for the 25 people who really want those hip belts, than to make 100 and add that extra production cost to everyone’s purchases.

How do you come up with your prices?

The price of our gear reflects the high-quality materials and attention to detail we put into every aspect of each product. We’re strong believers in the philosophy of buying solid gear that’ll last you a lifetime, rather than cheap mass-produced stuff that breaks down after a few uses. In saying that, we manage to keep our prices lower than they could be by selling directly from our warehouse to customers—cutting out the middleman and ensuring that you’re paying for quality, not for management costs or store upkeep.

Why is the Minaal 2.0 slightly smaller than some other carry-on bags?

We wanted the dimensions of the 2.0 to comply with the regulations of both U.S. and international airlines. Some bag companies only take more generous U.S. regulations into account—giving you an extra inch or two to work with, but also meaning you could be forced to check your bag regularly (or pay horrible excess-baggage fees) on trips around Europe and elsewhere.

If you're curious, we made a website and bot dedicated to worldwide airline carry-on bag restrictions.

I'd like to partner with Minaal - reviews, influencers, bloggers...

Generally, we don't have units allocated for reviews, social media etc. However, to be put on the list for future consideration, please contact us.
